UNT Wireless Networking Guide
General Information
Eaglenet, the wireless network at UNT is brought to you by the University of North Texas Computing and Information Technology Center. Eaglenet is available in almost every building on the Denton Campus and in all areas of Discovery Park. Eaglenet currently supports the wireless IEEE 802.11n standard that allows you to connect your wireless network equipped laptop or other device to the network without cumbersome cables or wires. The 802.11n standard has the capablity of speeds of 100 Mbps plus. Your actual speed and system throughput will vary depending on your location in a building, the number of other people using the network, and the type of equipment you are using.
Wireless Network Upgrade
We have recently (as of the beginning of the Spring 2010 semester) replaced all of our Cisco and Bluesocket wireless equipment with a new Aruba wireless system. While this upgrade was simply a replacement of the existing system, we are also working to increase coverage and reliability of the system for the future. This new system provldes us much better flexibility in expanding the wireless system. Over the course of this semester we hope to increase the number of access points in various areas which are seeing a high volume of users, thus spreading the traffic load and improving service.
Quick Start Guide
For those users that have used wireless before at another location and currently have their equipment configured for wireless operation , simply set the SSID to eaglenet and turn off WEP encryption. This should permit you to connect to Eaglenet from your device. Some operating systems will automatically detect the Eaglenet wireless network and offer to connect to it. With others, you may need to scan to find the available networks then select the one you want to connect to. Once you've connected to the wireless network, when you open a web browser to go to a web site, you will be asked to login with your EUID and password. When you complete the login, you may surf the web. If you have difficulty in connecting to Eaglenet, refer to the other selections listed below.
Eaglenet Installation and Configuration Requirements
Install the adapter and all needed drivers as instructed by the manufacturer. Many manufacturers have updates to their device drivers available on their corporate web pages.
